The house in 150 words
San Stefano is a Venetian manor of 1782 above Benitses on Corfu’s east coast, about twenty minutes from the UNESCO Old Town and 25 from the airport. Still owned by the family whose house received Elisabeth of Austria and Kaiser Wilhelm II, it has hosted Vivien Leigh and Gerald Durrell was the main set for Villa Belmar in The Marble Hall Murders (BBC and PBS Masterpiece, 2026) and appeared in The Durrells. Let exclusively, it sleeps up to twelve in five air-conditioned bedrooms, with a private pool, five acres of citrus and olive groves and a balcony facing the mountains of Epirus. A cook, boat, car hire, driver, guides and airport meet-and-greet can be arranged. It suits multigenerational families, heritage travellers, walkers on the Corfu Trail, small celebrations and retreats. Featured in The Sunday Times, Condé Nast Traveller, The Independent and Fodor’s.
